These pairs of ‘historically accurate’ clock hands are cast from lead instead of pewter. They are historically aged using a plating recipe from Daniel Burnap’s (1759-1838) memorandum book.
These hands are almost indistinguishable from original clock hands.
These are perfect for anyone who wants a museum quality replacement for higher esteemed clocks. In short, these are true exact copies of originals.
The downfall of historically accurate hands is that they are extremely soft, and bend very easily. They are not to be turned manually when setting the time on a clock. Most wooden tall clocks originally came with a direction sheet which explains to advance the hands by means of the “face wheel.” This means that to set the hands on the clock, the operator must reach behind the dial and turn the intermediate wheel manually to set the time. Moving the hands themselves can break them, which is why original lead hands are so uncommon today.
You are buying one pair of Riley Whiting or Winchester style clock hands cast in lead with a plated sealed finish. You must fit the holes to fit your clock yourself. They file easily with a small square file.
